Anuário da Indústria de Implementos Rodoviários 2024

45 The decision to lease a fleet of vehicles is not just about overcoming the entrenched ownership mentality. It is about a thorough evaluation, after all it has to add up. The numbers, however, show that leasing is progressive, both for companies in the transport sector and vehicle manufacturers when launching into a new business channel. According to a survey by Fenabrave, 104.1 thousand trucks were registered in 2023 and the rental sector, points out Abla, the Brazilian Association of Car Rental Companies, absorbed 10.2 thousand units, a share of around 10% of the total, four percentage points more compared to the previous year. At the end of 2023, the fleet of trucks managed by leasing companies totaled 42,700 units, growth of 19.6% on 35,700 in 2022. 15% increase in leasing companies in Brazil - In the same report, the number of car leasing companies operating in Brazil increased from 22,4000 in 2022 to 26,400 at the end of 2023 (+15.1%). In 2021, it was under 14,000. It is worth remembering that, through their finance divisions, in less than two years, Volvo, Scania, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus began leasing vehicles. Where there are trucks, there are road implements. The business profile of most commercial vehicle leasing companies offers a complete service. That is, the trucks go out ready for work. Contracts include fleet management, with documentation, taxes, maintenance, insurance and telemetry taken care of. “The proposal takes a weight off the companies minds, allowing them to focus on cargo transport,” says Fábio Leite, CEO of Addiante, a heavy vehicle leasing company formed in a partnership between Randoncorp and Gerdau. “The adoption of leasing in the business model for transport companies is a process of key change. There are advantages that are wort considering. It allows, for example, a reduced structure, with no need for a workshop or the managing of parts inventory. In fact, the numbers are already significant. The body that represents leasing companies says around 5% of the heavy implements sold in 2023 and the previous year were bought by its members. Last year alone, they accounted for 4,289 units out of more than 90,300. Gigantic growth potential - In business for almost a year, Addiante uses the network of 90 Randon offices to offer leasing services, which offers manufacturers of road implements another sales channel. During this period, the company leased 1,400 units - 400 trucks, 900 semi-trailers, and the rest in machinery and equipment. Leite says the potential for growth is gigantic. “In the United States, of the 38 million heavy-duty vehicles in circulation, 25% are leased. In Brazil, the estimate is 2.5% of a fleet of 3.8 million and in the semi-trailer segment, leasing accounts for about 6% of the approximately 1.4 million vehicles licensed.” Leasing companies offer specific vehicles. In partnership with implement manufacturers, the operator offers all the models and applications, from water trucks to lifting platforms, from cranes to trailers. “A van for the last mile is already configured with the internal grid for goods according to the needs of the operation”, says the Addiante CEO. Lease to make a profit This growing business model allows companies to focus on cargo transportation
